Tata Steel Jamshedpur onboards 18 transgenders in Shared Services Division

Jamshedpur, June 30: Tata Steel further expanded its transgender base with Shared Services Division onboarding new batch from the LGBTQIA+ community. Today, total 18 transgenders from pan India were onboarded. 

In December 2021, in a landmark initiative Tata Steel’s West Bokaro Division onboarded 14 transgender people as Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) Operators at its mines to start the ambitious journey. So far, total 97 transgenders have been employed at locations including Kalinganagar, West Bokaro and Jamshedpur. 

This step of onboarding the LGBTQIA+ community not only aims to break the glass ceiling, but also targets to mainstream transgender people in the society. Tata Steel’s Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) initiative aims at curating a workplace where everyone is respected, every voice is heard, and people can bring their authentic selves to work.

The onboarding event at the Centre For Excellence (CFE) today witnessed presence of Atrayee Sanyal, Vice President, Human Resource Management, Tata Steel, Probal Ghosh, Vice President, Shared Services, Tata Steel and Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President, Tata Workers’ Union besides other senior members of TWU.

Atrayee Sanyal, Vice President, Human Resource Management , Tata Steel said “I am glad to welcome new members into the Tata Steel family. Tata Steel will continue with its efforts to drive LGBTQIA+ inclusion and build a benchmark workplace for all. This journey of HR excellence has been extremely rewarding and motivates us to explore new horizons on diversity and inclusion.”
