Jamshedpur: Tata Steel commenced its observance of National Fire Service Week today, honoring the courageous firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The company will conduct safety initiatives across all its Indian locations from April 14 to April 20 to enhance fire safety awareness among employees, contractors, and the local community.
The inaugural ceremony took place at the Tata Steel Fire & Rescue Services in Jamshedpur. Chief Guest D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President of Corporate Services, and Guest of Honour Satish Singh, General Secretary of the Tata Workers’ Union, led the tributes to the fallen heroes. Senior officials, including Arvind Kumar Sinha, Chief of Security & Brand Protection, and several HR and union representatives, joined them in paying their respects.

India observes National Fire Service Day on April 14 to commemorate the 66 firefighters who lost their lives during the 1944 Bombay Dock explosion. This historic sacrifice serves as a reminder of the constant risks faced by emergency responders and the critical need for fire preparedness.
During his address, D B Sundara Ramam commended the Fire Services team for their efficiency and highlighted Tata Steel’s investment in advanced technology, such as the SKYLIFT and Crash Fire Tenders. He emphasized that the team must conduct regular fire audits on shop floors and actively promote safety protocols throughout the week.
Satish Singh praised the dedication of the personnel and specifically noted Tata Steel’s progressive step in recruiting female firefighters to improve gender diversity within the department. To conclude the event, the guests inaugurated a ‘Fire & Rescue Exhibition’ at the West Plant Fire Station and flagged off a specialized vehicle to spread fire safety messages throughout the city.
