Jamshedpur, July 10: Tata Steel Vice President (Corporate Services) D.B. Sundara Ramam has expressed concern over the growing traffic congestion in Jamshedpur and emphasized the need for flyovers in the city, similar to the one under construction in Mango.
Responding to questions from journalists about Tata Steel’s plans to address Jamshedpur’s traffic problems, Ramam revealed that discussions are underway regarding the construction of flyovers within the city. “Just like Mango, Jamshedpur needs flyovers in key areas. However, this cannot be done by Tata Steel alone, as it involves complex technical planning and substantial investment,” he said.
He further stressed that cooperation from the Jharkhand government is essential for such large-scale infrastructure projects and confirmed that dialogues between Tata Steel and the state government are ongoing.
Ramam also mentioned the Eastern and Western Corridors as part of broader traffic solutions and assured that post-monsoon road repairs will address pothole-related issues caused by excess rainfall.
Earlier, speaking at the inauguration of a newly allotted parking facility provided by Tata Steel to the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Thursday evening, Ramam acknowledged the mounting vehicle pressure in the city and said that improved infrastructure is essential.
Sharing a personal anecdote, Ramam said he enjoys driving but now relies on a chauffeur due to the lack of parking and traffic issues in the city. “No matter where you go in Jamshedpur, parking remains a challenge. With the number of vehicles increasing daily, the new parking space for the Chamber will be of great benefit,” he added.
Ramam also lauded the shared vision between Tata Steel and the Chamber, stating, “The Chamber is continuously working for the welfare and development of businessmen and entrepreneurs, and Tata Steel shares this goal. With aligned objectives, both will work together for the development of Jamshedpur.”
