Tata Steel Foundation rolls out major fee relief for technical courses

Jamshedpur, Jan 27: Tata Steel Foundation has announced a significant initiative to make quality technical education more affordable. From the Academic Year 2025–26, Tata Steel Foundation will provide a subsidy of ₹20,000 per semester to students enrolled in core diploma programmes across its three technical institutes —R.D. Tata Technical Education Centre (RDTTEC), Golmuri; Tata Steel Technical Institute (TSTI), Burmamines; and J.N. Tata Technical Education Centre (JNTTEC), Gopalpur.

These institutes offer industry-relevant diploma programmes supported by modern training facilities, experienced faculty, and strong placement linkages, enabling students to build practical skills and improve their employment prospects.

The ₹20,000 per-semester subsidy is aimed at reducing the financial burden on students and their families, while encouraging young people to pursue skill-based technical education. The subsidy will be applicable to all eligible core diploma students from the 2025–26 academic cycle onwards.

Speaking on the initiative, Captain Amitabh, Head – Skills Development, Tata Steel Foundation, said: “Tata Steel Foundation is committed to providing quality technical and skill-based education to the youth of Jamshedpur and neighbouring areas where we have operaions. Our effort has always been to offer high-quality education at a competitive cost. In partnership with NTTF, we carefully assessed how best we could reduce the financial burden on students without compromising on quality. We believe this reduced cost will enable more students, especially from Jamshedpur and Gopalpur, where access to quality technical education is limited, to pursue industry-relevant skills. This initiative is a step towards making skill education accessible to young people who may otherwise not be able to afford it.”

Tata Steel Foundation has partnered Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) in providing technical training at the said institutes and continues to drive inclusive development across Jharkhand and Odisha, with education and skill development as key focus areas. Through its various programmes, the Foundation reaches over 1.5 million people annually, supporting its mission to build skilled, resilient, and future-ready communities.
