Tata Steel Foundation organises training session on maternal & child healthcare

Jamshedpur, Sep 15: Tata Steel Foundation conducted an information and training session under its initiative MANSI+, which is geared at tackling issues of maternal and child healthcare in Potka village in the East Singhbhum district.

This session, called the Saas, Bahu, Pati Sammelan, is aimed to sensitise not only new mothers and pregnant women, but the entire family. Along with women, their husbands and mothers-in-law were also in attendance. This session was conducted by Bindu, a Saihiya Didi (ASHA worker) trained under the MANSI programme and included information about nutrition and balanced diets for pregnant women, best practices to undertake during pregnancy, symptoms to watch out for and precautions to take pre and post natal.

MANSI+ aims to conduct 500 such information and knowledge dispensing sessions along its operational location at Kolhan and specifically 100 sessions at East Singhbhum district this year. MANSI+ has been able to significantly reduce childhood mortality rates (CMR) and Neonatal Mortality Rates significantly through their interventions.

The initiative has been able to achieve this by strengthening existing government health delivery structures by providing training and education to frontline healthcare workers, the Sahiyyas and increasing their skill and knowledge. MANSI‚Äôs interventions have been implemented in more than 1686 villages across rural Jharkhand and Odisha, and is poised to grow further in the coming decade.
