Tata Steel to continue salary to kin of employees who died of Covid-19, support kids’ education


Jamshedpur, May 24: Known for its best HR practices, steel major Tata Steel has announced social security schemes to the family members of employees hit by Covid-19 pandemic. As per the scheme, the family of the deceased employee/nominee will get the last drawn salary till 60 years of age along with medical benefits and housing facilities.

In a press communique issued, the company said: “Tata Steel has taken the path of ‘Agility with Care’ by extending social security schemes to the family members of the employees affected by Covid-19. While we do our bit, we urge everyone to help others around them in any capacity possible to get through these tough times.”

Under the scheme, an employee who died of Covid-19, his/ her family will get the last-drawn salary, till the time when the employee would have turned 60 years of age. The family would also continue to get access to medical benefits and housing facilities. Besides, Tata Steel will take care of children’s education expenses till graduation in India for its frontline employees who while on job get infected by the virus and died.

Tata Steel had spent Rs 100 crore in Jharkhand last year alone for treatment of corona patients and controlling the pandemic. The company spent on awareness and various other platforms to control the situation. TMH alone had treated 3986 patients free of cost last year. 

Tata Steel has set a great example which will make other companies take the same approach.
