Jamshedpur: A tragic incident of suicide shook the Sitaramdera locality on Wednesday evening when a 43-year-old woman took her own life following an alleged family dispute.
The incident occurred around 7:30 pm at the Supervisor Flats under Sitaramdera Police Station.
The deceased has been identified as Sarika Devi, wife of Lok Vijay, and an employee of Tata Steel.
According to sources, the couple reportedly had an argument shortly after lunch on Wednesday. A few hours after the dispute, Sarika Devi is believed to have taken the extreme step by hanging herself.
Family members, upon discovering her in an unconscious state, immediately brought her down and rushed her to Tata Main Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Sarika Devi is survived by her 20-year-old daughter, who has been left devastated by the incident.
On receiving information, Sitaramdera Police reached TMH and took the body into custody for postmortem. The body was handed over to the family on Thursday after completing all legal formalities.
Police have said that, prima facie, the case appears to be a suicide. However, further clarity will emerge after the postmortem report and detailed statements from family members. The police are also questioning neighbours regarding the couple’s reported dispute. A UD (Unnatural Death) case has been registered, and investigation is underway.
