Ranchi, June 9: Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that Tata Steel will construct community toilets along Ranchi- Bahragora road under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Addressing the maiden Open Defecation Free (ODF) Conclave organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Jharkhand along with Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of Jharkhand at Project Bhawan in Ranchi, CM said, apart from that, toilets will also be made by different companies under CSR along other important roads with a view to comfort the travelers and make the state ODF.
He further said that SHGs, corporate, people, media and the government will help make the state ODF by 2018. 1% fund out of 2% to be expensed under CSR has been provisioned to expense through the council.
The three priorities fixed by CSR council include – making the state ODF, implementing pipeline supply water and making the state malnutrition free.
Chief Minister went on to say that the historic decision of expenditure of 30% of the funds received by District Mineral Foundation after its formation has heralded the pace of development in the related region. In different spheres of the state, Rs. 1500 cr. pipeline water supply scheme is being implemented. The increase in pipe water supply has reached to 30% from the previous 12%. This will also help in keeping the toilets clean and ensure ODF.
‘Small works lead to big changes.
A school girl in Jamshedpur built a toilet for a poor family from her pocket money which shows we are moving forward for a new change’, said CM das, adding, ’25 blocks, 742 grampanchayats and 5136 revenue villages have been made ODF. Other 35 blocks of the state will be made ODF by the end of this month. 12.71 lakh toilets have been made in the state. The whole state will be made ODF by 2018. The govt. earnestly endeavours to develop infrastructure in the state. He summoned people to keep their surroundings neat and clean’.
Sunil Bhaskaran, vice president, corporate services, Tata Steel, Drinking Water and Sanitation Principal Sec A. P. Singh, Sec to the CM Sunil Kr. Barnwal, Director, Sanitation Mission Rajesh Sharma and other dignitaries were present on this occasion.
One of the objectives of Government of India- Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is to end open defecation in the nation by 2019. Government of Jharkhand has also taken a target to have the State Open Defecation Free by 2018. To frame a strategic road map for the Government of Jharkhand on achieving the target the maiden ODF conclave was organised.
