Mumbai, Feb. 13: Tata Steel has been bestowed with the ‘Best in Class Manufacturing Award’ at the TIME India Awards held at the National Sports Council of India in Mumbai during the “Make in India Week.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the award to TV Narendran, managing director, India & South East Asia, Tata Steel, in recognition of the company’s outstanding performance in the manufacturing sector.
The TIME India Awards encompassed three categories namely, ‘Best in Class Manufacturing’, ‘Manufacturing Innovator of the Year’ and ‘Young Maker of the Year,’ thereby recognizing notable achievements in the Indian manufacturing sector. Tata Steel was nominated along with organizations like Hindustan Unilever Limited and Shahi Exports Private Limited for the said category.
On receiving the award, TV Narendran said, “It is an honor to receive this award from our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.
We take pride that our efforts at ensuring operational sustainability have been acknowledged. This award has recognized our manufacturing superiority. Tata Steel achieved this by creating all the building blocks of a sustainable business like strong operational excellence, superior design & development capabilities, and ability to scale up to global standards of quality, sustainable systems and strong corporate governance.”
Speaking at the event, Koushik Chatterjee, group executive director, finance and corporate, Tata Steel, said, “Manufacturing excellence and competitiveness is a pre-requisite for our country to succeed in its industrial vision for ‘Make in India’ and Tata Steel has always been committed to this vision.
Our recent Kalinganagar Plant and Gopalpur projects are a testimony to our efforts towards this initiative. This award has greatly motivated us to create higher benchmarks in the steel industry and further our operational excellence in the manufacturing industry.”
“The Indian economy is amongst the fastest growing economies in the world having surpassed China in the third quarter of the year 2015. The manufacturing sector is also growing rapidly, especially with the boost given by the government of our country.
The “Make in India” initiative is a testimony to our government’s efforts in escalating this growth.
