Tata Steel Adventure Foundation team scales Mt Kang Yatse-1 in Ladakh

Jamshedpur, Sept 13: A team of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) successfully summited Kang Yatse- 1 (6401m) adding yet another feather on its cap.

 Kang Yatse-1, a formidable peak is nestled in the awe-inspiring Himalayan region, is the highest and most elegant peak in the Markha Valley in Ladakh- cold desert in India. This was the first time a TSAF organised a mountaineering expedition here. Earlier, few successful expeditions have been conducted by other teams from India and abroad.

Expedition was started on August 28 from Leh. Team reached base camp at the height of 5100m on September 2 via camps at Sara, Markha and Thankgchutse. Acclimatization and technical training was done at base camp for 2 days along with load ferry to Camp – 1 (5450m). Team reached summit camp at 5850m on September 7 and started for the summit push in the night. On September 8 morning, team was successfully able to reach the summit at 6401m. After that descent was started and all the members reached Leh by September 10. All the members departed from Leh on September 11 and reached their respective locations by September 12.

The expedition was meticulously planned and executed under the capable leadership of Mohan Rawat, Senior instructor at TSAF who played a pivotal role in this awe-inspiring feat and was the leader of the expedition. He was supported by Govind Singh, Randeb Singh, Ashish Saxena and Renu Sharma from TSAF. Team also had support of Ladakh Mountaineering Guides Association (LMGA) guides – Skalzang Rigzin, Funsok Jigmet, Tenzin.

The team comprised of dedicated and experienced climbers demonstrated exceptional skill, unwavering determination, and remarkable teamwork throughout their arduous journey. Team faced challenges of high altitude, low oxygen, extreme cold and high wind conditions.

Seven members out of 16 member team was able to summit the peak successfully.
