Jamshedpur, May 30: The Alumni of the Tarapore School Young Leaders Fellowship Programme (YLFP) have started an online fundraiser campaign ‘Milaap’ to assist the police front-liners in their daily efforts to combat the virus.
The Tarapore School Young Leaders Programme is an after-school programme in conjunction with XLRI and has run for two editions since 2018. Every year 16 students from various schools around Jamshedpur are selected. They work for 4-6 months to bring about sustainable change in society.
The programme aims at instilling sensitivity and awareness among young adults, making them world changers for life.
Looking at the current situation that prevails , a group of students from the alumni decided to assist and show their gratitude to the members of the police force who risk their lives every day and brave the midday Sun in order to protect citizens from the deadly virus. The Fellows have been distributing food packets and sanitizers to the policemen in Bistupur, Jugsalai, Kadma, Sonari, Mango, Sakchi, Agrico, Golmuri, Dimna and Telco using the funds they have raised.
The first distribution took place on 24th May, 2021. A target of 100 boxes was thought for the first day and the volunteers were successful in achieving their target. The second drive took place on 25.05.2021. The fellows aim continue distributing the 100 food boxes for the weeks to come.
This initiative has received much appreciation from the Police. They were grateful and touched to have been thought of during these difficult times, especially by a group of students.
The policemen were also given letters of appreciation by the Fellows expressing the gratitude for their unwavering service to the citizens and also requesting for feedback. The gratitude of these policemen was indeed inspiring and motivating for the fellows to keep working.
Aruna Mishra an esteemed Police Officer supported the students by helping them create a route map and get permissions to run this programme. Her compassion and empathetic gesture towards society is commendable.
