Jamshedpur, September 27: Tata Motors Hospital organized walkathon on Saturday to mark World Heart Day. The event, popularly called the “Heart Run,” began at 6:15 a.m. in pleasant weather near the Tata Motors Hospital Administration Building.

Present on the occasion were Tata Motors Workers Union President Shashi Bhushan Prasad, General Secretary R.K. Singh, senior doctors including Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. S.L. Srivastava, Dr. Arunima Verma, IR Head Soumik Roy, alongside hospital staff, nurses, schoolchildren, colony residents, and union representatives.

The walkathon was flagged off jointly by Tata Motors Plant Head Sunil Tiwari and Union General Secretary R.K. Singh. They encouraged others to adopt walking as a healthy habit.

After the walkathon, at a program in Tata Motors Hospital speakers emphasized the importance of physical fitness and heart health. Plant Head Sunil Tiwari added humor to his message, drawing laughter when he said: “Despite walking so much, no one had to be brought in by ambulance. This means you are all healthy.”

On a serious note, he urged participants to make walking a daily practice. “If you walk regularly, you may not even need to come to the hospital in your own car, let alone an ambulance,” he said. Emphasizing self-care, he remarked, “Takeout 45 minutes for yourself. If you can’t take 45 minutes out of 24 hours, that’s a problem. You have to find time for your health.”

Tiwari recommended that everyone walk at least 6,000 to 8,000 steps five days a week to avoid future health complications. He concluded by congratulating all participants for their enthusiasm and commitment.

Union General Secretary R.K. Singh praised Tata Motors Hospital and Dr. Sanjay Kumar’s team for organizing the event successfully. He highlighted how the initiative had grown from just 40–50 participants in its early years to nearly 300 this year, reflecting rising awareness about fitness. Singh stressed that walking 3–4 kilometers daily is enough to ensure a healthy lifestyle.

President Shashi Bhushan Prasad echoed the importance of making walking a regular habit, while Dr. Sanjay Kumar drew a creative comparison: “Walking is like paying EMI for life. If you keep walking, you keep paying your health dues in advance.”

IR Head Soumik Roy also addressed the gathering, encouraging everyone to carry forward the message of fitness.
