Jamshedpur, March 17: Cricketer, industrialist and author Himadri Sarkar, in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has stated, “Like many fellow citizens, I too fervently hope and expect you to be at the helm of affairs to guide Bharat to reach new heights of glory in your third term as PM of the largest democracy on this planet. I sincerely wish you to accelerate unfinished agendas which you and your team couldn’t finish during your 10 year term.” Himadri went on to suggest, that the country be renamed Bharat or Bharatvarsh. He also went on to state in the letter, “Electoral Reforms Bill should be passed in Parliament which should encompass the following:

No tainted candidate against whom any kind of

criminal cases have been taken up in court should be allowed to stand as candidate for any election; minimum education level like matriculation be made mandatory for a candidate; voters should also have basic education. Age should not be the only criteria; instead of number of votes, winner of a seat be decided on percentage basis; in this age of AI and other emerging technology, voting may be done digitally instead of going to polling booths. Some such process may be developed which should be foolproof; from 2029 all elections (Parliamentary, Legislative) should be held at the same time.”

In his letter, Sarkar stated that big defaulters who have fled the country “with tons of money” should be booked and brought back and money recovered from them at the earliest. “Similarly all out diplomatic and other methods may be applied to bring back criminals who fled the country after doing extensive damage in terms of men, material and prestige of the country.”

Himadri Sarkar suggested, “Rs1000 notes should be reintroduced and Rs 2000 currency notes be permanently removed from circulation.”

He urged the Prime Minister in his letter that a stone statue larger than life-size of Swami Vivekananda be installed at the place where he meditated before going to Chicago.

In a chat on the letter he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Himadri Sarkar said, “These are some issues which came to mind immediately but there are many other areas which have immense scope for improvement if a specific one is suggested.”
