Tagore Society Jamshedpur celebrates legacy of ‘rebel poet’ Kazi Nazrul Islam

Jamshedpur: The Tagore Society organized a captivating ‘Nazrul Sandhya’ at Rabindra Bhavan, the city’s premier cultural center, to commemorate the life and literary contributions of the legendary ‘Rebel Poet,’ Kazi Nazrul Islam. The evening brought together music lovers, artistes, and cultural enthusiasts in a heartfelt tribute to one of Bengal’s most influential literary figures.

The program featured a series of soul-stirring performances by local artistes who presented some of Nazrul’s most cherished compositions. Ayush Mitra, Madhuchhanda Bhattacharya, Rita Mukherjee , Chandana Choudhury and Vikas Banerjee left the audience mesmerized with their renditions of Nazrul’s acclaimed and poignant compositions.

The final segment featured Anindita Gupta, who immersed the audience in the beauty of Nazrul Geeti through her renditions.

The artistes were ably accompanied by Shyamal Chakraborty on tabla, Mukul Roy on keyboard, and Ashok Das on flute, whose musical support enhanced the performances.

Speaking on the occasion, Ashis Choudhury, General Secretary of the Tagore Society, highlighted the timeless relevance of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s works. He noted that the poet’s writings continued to unite Bengali-speaking communities across the world and remained a powerful source of inspiration. Choudhury emphasized that cultural events such as Nazrul Sandhya helped introduce younger generations to great literary and musical icons, encouraging them to preserve and build upon this rich artistic heritage.

The event concluded on a high note, reaffirming Nazrul’s enduring influence on literature, music, and cultural identity.
