Jamshedpur, Sept 26: The 200th birth anniversary of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar the creator of Bengali script with the initiation of Barno Porichoy was organized by Tagore Society at the Rabindra Bhawan today. Tagore Society president Dr HS Paul, Tagore School of Arts committee chairman Dr Gautam Dasgupta, general secretary Asish Chowdhury and Tagore School of Arts principal Chandana Chowdhury jointly offered floral tributes on the portrait of Vidyasagar.
Art and Craft teacher Rita Sarkar was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedicated service to the 48 year old Tagore School of Art. The award included a certificate of appreciation, shawl and a cheque for Rs 25, 000.
Speaking to teachers on the on the occasion, Dr Paul observed, �A person achieves greatness by deeds. Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar attained legendary status by introducing Bengali script adding brightness to the Bengali vistas of culture and tradition. Teaching is such a profession where education is invaluable and none can repay the impartation of knowledge. Teachers must always bear this factor in mind while teaching students as impartation of knowledge gives teachers immortality.�
Teachers who had rendered 25 years of invaluable services to the institution were presented mementos for their distinctive and long service by Dr HS Paul and and Gautam Dasgupta. All teachers of the school were also honoured on the occasion.
A cultural program of dance based on Rabindranath�s composition, classical music and tabla presentation by the teachers of Tagore School of Arts was presented on the occasion. Chandana Chowdhury offered the vote of thanks.
