Jamshedpur, Aug. 17: A team of Income Tax officials carried out raids at the residence, factories and other business establishments of Naveen Poddar, a local businessman, here on Thursday, sources said.
The IT officials hailing from Patna, Dhanbad, Ranchi and Jamshedpur I-T circles started the raids in the house and offices of Naveen Poddar at Bistupur. They went on to raid his couple of factories and other business establishments in Chandil and Adityapur in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district. They also raided his business establishments in Dhalbhumgarh under Ghatshila sub-division of East Singhbhum.
According to sources, a team of 25 officials from the four I-T circles took part in the raids at 25 locations of Poddar and his business partners.
“As of now we cannot divulge much details about the raids. The raids were conducted to unearth disproportionate assets of Naveen Poddar. The raid began in the morning and is expected to continue till tomorrow. We will be able to say anything only after the raids get over,” said Vijay Kumar, deputy director, Income Tax.
Naveen Poddar and his younger brother Sachin own a mini steel plant Gajanan Ferro Private Limited at Dhalbhumgarh, a shopping mall at Adityapur and a sponge iron unit at Chandil in Seraikela-Kharsawan.
An official of the IT team said they are going to look for more documents and data about their business from the office located at Talwar Building in Bistupur.
