Jamshedpur. March 10: The Swadeshi Mela organised by Swadeshi Jagaran Manch is promoting the idea of adapting to the ‘desi way of living. The 14th fair inaugurated by Saryu Roy, Jharkhand’s food and civil supplies minister at Gopal Maidan in Bistupur is witnessing footfalls.
The Swadeshi Mela is promoting the use of goods and products made in India as opposed to the westernisation and use of foreign made products. The Swadeshi Jagran Manch on various platforms has tried to promote the Indian living style and commodites made in the country. The fair is also maintaining its tradition to make people realise the importance of Swadeshi products.
The Swadeshi Mela this year has more than 300 stalls exhibiting handicrafts, handloom and cottage industry products. Participants from several states have come to use the platform to sell their products. The first day of the fair witnessed around 2000 visitors.
Madhubani sarees and dupattas, chanderi silk materials, raw silk sarees and printed khadi dupattas, Bhagalpuri silk sarees, cotton kurtas, junk jewellery, terracotta, dokra, shopping cards, and other home decor materials, apparels, food products, gems and jewellery, madhubani paintings, hand made jewellery, yoga stall, ceramic artefacts, tussar silk materials, ayurvedic medicines and furniture.
The organisers further said the Swadeshi Mela was intended to instill confidence in micro enterprise and self help groups. It would also highlight the achievements of Indian enterprise in the wake of growing globalisation.
�The basic purpose behind organising the fair is to ensure a platform to the finished goods of the rural artisans and craftsman who rarely get an opportunity to sale their products during summer season,� said another functionary. He noted that the western world is ruling the markets despite the fact that the products produced in our country are equally competitive. With increasing flow of western products multinationals are minting money at our own cost. It is our duty to consume �swadeshi� products for the sake of our own people.
�The basic purpose behind organising the fair is to ensure a platform to the finished goods of the rural artisans and craftsman who rarely get an opportunity to sale their products during summer season,� said fair coordinator. He said for years CBMD has been organising Swadeshi Mela in city and drawing inspiration. Stalls of designer clothes, food items, cosmetic products and fashion articles are most likely to witness a good turnout during the fair, he hoped.
Cultural programmes highlighting the flavor of the different states would be organised at the venue throughout the fair besides, several other activities aimed at entertaining the mela goers would be held on the ground.
