Jamshedpur, Sep 26: A married woman named Preeti Devi (29) was found dead under suspicious circumstances in her home on Road No. 28, Sidhgora, prompting allegations of harassment and foul play by her family. The incident was reported to the police, who quickly arrived at the scene and sent the body for postmortem examination.

Following the discovery of Preeti’s body, her parents accused her in-laws of caste-based harassment, claiming that they drove her to take her own life. A suicide note was recovered from the scene, in which Preeti allegedly named her in-laws as the cause of her distress and her untimely death.

Preeti married Dhamendra Yadav in 2014 after eloping, and they had two children together. Her father stated that the in-laws had consistently mistreated her, often resorting to physical abuse and expressing disapproval of her caste background. Preeti was reportedly from the washerman caste, while Dhamendra belonged to the cowherd caste, a fact that reportedly led to familial discord.

In the suicide note, Preeti detailed her struggles with her in-laws, stating that despite her repeated visits to the police, no action was taken against the alleged harassment. She specifically called out several members of Dhamendra’s family, demanding harsh punishment for them.

Currently, Dhamendra, who works as a contractor for Tata Steel, has been taken into custody for questioning as the investigation unfolds. The police are treating the case with urgency given the serious nature of the allegations surrounding Preeti’s death.
