Anil Kumar Jain Takes Charge as GM of South Eastern Railway

Jamshedpur: Indian Railways has appointed Anil Kumar Jain as the new General Manager of South Eastern Railway (SER), a strategically vital zone for the national network. The Railway Board formalized the appointment on April 8, 2026, following approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

Jain, a 1990-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), will assume his new role in Kolkata shortly. He succeeds former GM Anil Kumar Mishra, who retired on March 31, 2026. Additional General Manager Soumitro Majumdar handled the responsibilities in the interim.

A Track Record of Infrastructure and Leadership

Jain brings decades of technical and administrative expertise to the zone. His career highlights include:

• Operational Efficiency: As the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Rajkot in 2021, he successfully streamlined administrative systems and improved train operations.

• Modern Transit: He played a pivotal role in the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, gaining specialized experience in large-scale urban infrastructure and modern transport technology.

Strategic Importance of the SER Zone

Headquartered in Kolkata, the South Eastern Railway manages critical rail corridors across Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. The zone serves as a backbone for the national economy by facilitating the movement of:

• Steel

Because this region covers India’s mineral-rich heartland, the General Manager plays a decisive role in the country’s logistics and freight framework.
