Jamshedpur, May 30: Firebrand leader known for his role in the Jharkhand movement, Surya Singh Besra announced his renunciation of politics and turning towards spiritualism. He has changed his name to Suryavtar Devdoot. He said that his decision was made after his recovery from COVID infection. He said, “I have decided to quit the political arena and opt for spiritual pursuits. I took the decision today (Sunday, May 30). I am blessed for getting a second lease of life. I was tested COVID positive on April 13 and overcame the infection after battling it for 22 days. I had been seeking God through the years but after getting a new birth, I realized that God is everywhere. It is because of his blessings that I have attained a new lease of life.”
Surya Singh Besra said that half of his 65 years of life had been spent in the struggle for attainment of Jharkhand as a separate state. He is the recipient of several honours including Jharkhand Ratna, Jharkhand Andolankari Senani, Utkrisht Vidhayak (Excellence for his work as legislator), Bharat Seva Ratna, Sahitya Shikhar Samman and others.
