Ranchi: A team of 59 officials from the education department conducted surprise inspections of government schools across Jharkhand from January 4 to 6. The inspection, carried out by the Jharkhand Education Project Council, aimed to assess the implementation of various schemes and programs designed to reduce the school dropout rate and encourage enrollment.
In this extensive initiative, officials formed 2 to 3 member teams and visited 8 to 10 schools in each of the 24 districts. The inspection covered a range of aspects, including checking updated child registers, assessing the quality of mid-day meal food, reviewing reports on schemes like the distribution of free uniforms, school bags, kits, and cycles. Ground investigations in villages were also conducted to address issues related to child registration, out-of-school cases, and dropouts. Interactions with parents and children provided valuable insights.
Unfortunately, the surprise inspections uncovered serious irregularities in many schools. The officials are set to return on January 7 and will submit their comprehensive report to the Jharkhand Education Project Council. Based on their findings, actions will be taken against teachers and headmasters of the respective schools.
The Jharkhand Education Project Council, recognizing the need for stronger monitoring at the district level, constituted a state-level monitoring committee to assess the ground reality of the department’s schemes. The inspections were prompted by complaints of negligence and irregularities in the implementation of various plans, including those affecting even excellent and model schools. The monitoring teams have identified irregularities and are expected to recommend corrective actions, potentially leading to orders for action against teachers on Monday.
