Jamshedpur, July 27: This year, cases of dog bites in the district have seen a significant increase compared to last year. From January to June 2024, 6,892 people were bitten by dogs. According to information from the District Surveillance Department, the total number of animal bite cases has risen this year. In 2023, from April to December, 8,846 dog bite cases were reported, along with 28 snake bite cases, 89 cat bite cases, and no monkey bite cases.
In contrast, during the first six months of 2024 alone, 6,892 dog bite cases have been reported. Additionally, there have been 17 snake bite cases, 187 cat bite cases, and 33 monkey bite cases within the same period. This increase has prompted health authorities to take action.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Jujhar Manjhi has issued orders to ensure that hospitals and health centers in the district are stocked with necessary medications for treating dog and snake bites. The increase in such cases has led to instructions for all medical facilities to keep injections for snake venom and anti-rabies readily available. This proactive measure aims to address the growing number of animal bite incidents and ensure prompt treatment for affected patients.
