Ranchi, May 10: The Supreme Court on Friday disposed the petition filed by Hemant Soren against the arrest of ED.
Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren had filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting to direct the Jharkhand High Court to pronounce the verdict on his petition in the ED arrest case.
Jharkhand High Court had given its verdict on May 3
The division bench of Supreme Court Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta said that after the Jharkhand High Court has given its verdict in this case, this petition has now become infructuous.
The High Court has given its verdict in this case on May 3. Hemant Soren had reached the Supreme Court even before the High Court gave its verdict. He had filed a petition requesting the Supreme Court to direct the Jharkhand High Court to give its verdict on his petition filed against the ED’s arrest.
In the petition filed in the Supreme Court, Hemant Soren had also requested for interim bail to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections till the High Court’s decision on his petition against the ED arrest.
The division bench told senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Arunabh Chaudhary that due to the High Court’s decision in this matter, this petition has now become useless.
Kapil Sibal said that Hemant Soren’s Special Leave Petition (SLP), challenging last week’s decision of the Jharkhand High Court, is to be heard in the Supreme Court on May 13. Therefore, both the petitions should be heard together on May 13. However, the division bench told him that Hemant Soren’s lawyer can raise this argument in the SLP when the hearing will be held on May 13.
