Supreme Court refuses bail to Pooja Singhal

Ranchi, April 29: Jharkhand’s suspended IAS officer Pooja Singhal bail plea was rejected by Supreme Court.

The apex court has refused to grant bail to Pooja Singhal. Pooja Singhal, arrested in the MNREGA scam case, had filed a bail petition in the Supreme Court.

Pooja Singhal is in jail from 11 May 2022

Pooja Singhal, had applied for bail in the Supreme Court citing poor health. Her lawyer had argued in the apex court on March 16 that Pooja Singhal had been in jail for 585 days. ED has filed a charge sheet against him. Since Pooja Singhal is not well, she should be granted bail.

The court had asked the ED to file an affidavit in which it would be stated for how many days the Pooja Singhal had been in jail. Also asked to tell for how many days Pooja has got interim bail so far and for how many days she stayed in RIMS.

Enforcement Directorate’s lawyer Additional Solicitor General SV Raju had told the Supreme Court that Pooja Singhal had spent more time in hospital than in jail during her custody period.

“Till now she has spent only 231 days in jail. She remained in the hospital for 303 days.”
