Jamshedpur, February 15: The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition challenging the notification issued by the state government to make Jamshedpur an industrial town.
This petition was filed by Saurabh Vishnu against the order given by the Jharkhand High Court on 13 September 2024.
Significantly, in this case, the division bench of Justice Suryakant Pathak and Justice NK Singh of the Supreme Court gave its order on 12 February 2025. In this order, the bench said that there is no need for a special leave petition (SLP) in this case, nor is there any need for interference in it. With this, all the pending cases related to this matter have been dismissed. Saurabh Vishnu’s lawyer had presented the argument.
It is worth noting that the matter was heard on 12 August 2024. During this, Saurabh Vishnu’s lawyers Akhilesh Srivastava, Kajal Giri and Neha Rathi presented their arguments. Earlier, Saurabh Vishnu and more than 50 citizens of Jamshedpur had filed a PIL (PIL 2636/2024) against the notification issued by the Jharkhand government on 23 December 2023. Under this, Jamshedpur was declared an industrial town.
According to the information received, the Jharkhand High Court, after hearing the case, had ordered that the hearing of the writ filed by Jawaharlal Sharma, already pending in the Supreme Court, is scheduled to be held on 20 September 2024. Therefore, in this case, the petition of Saurabh Vishnu and other citizens will be heard only after the execution of the writ by the Supreme Court.
At the same time, regarding the order of the Supreme Court, Saurabh Vishnu’s lawyer Akhilesh Srivastava said that the Supreme Court dismissed this petition because another petition related to this matter is already pending. It was filed by Jawaharlal Sharma. Due to this, there was no need for a new SLP..
