Sunstroke menace starts as mercury crosses 42.3 mark

Jamshedpur: With the soaring mercury, Jharkhand has come under the spate of sunstroke. In many cities of the state, the temperature has crossed 42 degree celsius.

Steel city recorded a maximum temperature of 42.3 degree celsius on Saturday while Daltonganj recorded a maximum temperature of 42 degrees today. The temperature of Ranchi, once known as the summer Capital of Bihar, was recorded at 38.5 degree celsius.

Met department officials said the temperature in Ranchi is likely to go up by one or two degree in the next couple of days. The maximum temperature of Bokaro, Deoghar, Giridih, Dumka, Chaibasa, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Chatra, Latehar and Garhwa was recorded between 38 and 41 degree celsius.

As per Met department sources, sunstroke will continue to torment people of the state for next one month, though there is a possibility of cloudy weather and slight drizzle in Ranchi and other areas.

In many cities, people are facing a tough time as temperature has crossed the 40 degree mark. Most harassed are students who have to go home around noon or in the afternoon. Due to harsh weather, drinking water crisis has arisen in various parts of Ranchi.
