After Sukhdev, finance minister Rajendra airs discontent

Ranchi: Close on the heels of the disappointment expressed by the state Congress president Sukhdev Bhagat on the functioning of the state government, state finance minister Rajendra Prasad Singh too, echoed similar feelings on Sunday.

Speaking during a meeting of the state working committee of the party, Singh said, I too, want that the state government collapses as soon as possible.

The veteran Congress leader said the party activists were of the opinion that the Congress contests the Assembly elections on its own. Before we set ourselves to the task of contesting the Assembly polls solely on our own, we must strengthen the party organization in the state. Before polls, we must strengthen our base in the state if we have to contest the election without entering into alliance with any other party, he said.

Sukhdev Bhagat had recently criticized the state government and said that the way of functioning of the Hemant Soren-led government was not satisfactory. He had said that the government had failed to live up to the expectations of the people and implement projects under the Common Minimum Programme as agreed to by the ruling alliance partners during government formation.

The finance minister said he was ready to assume responsibility as an ordinary party worker if party candidates were ready to contest on all seats of the state. The sentiments of party activists will be honoured at all cost. When the entire organization is willing to contest the elections, we will persuade Sonia Gandhi and our national vice president Rahul Gandhi, he said.

The Congress veteran said a meeting of the state Congress committee was convened after the Lok Sabha elections. The party activists are voicing their opinions and making suggestions which will lead the party to take its decision accordingly, he said.
