Suicide victim’s family threatened to withdraw case

Jamshedpur, June 14: The family members of Sonam (name changed to protect identity), who was allegedly tortured physically and mentally by Amresh Kumar after the latter sent an MMS of the girl and blackmailed her, has committed suicide.

Following this, Sonam�s kin filed a case against the accused Amresh and now his maternal uncle and aunt, Bhusan Pajyar and Kiran Devi respectively are threatening the victim�s family members to withdraw the case or face worse consequences.

On Tuesday, Sonam�s mother Asha Devi submitted a memorandum to the East Singhbhum SSP demanding security for the family and the arrest of the accused. She also demanded a probe into the matter. On the occasion, members of Kolhan Jan Ekta Manch were also present.

Taking the matter on a priority basis, SSP Anoop T Mathew ordered DSP (Law and Order) to take action against the culprits. Later, the DSP directed the Baghbera police station in-charge to arrest the culprits at the earliest.

According to the memorandum submitted to the SSP, Amresh Kumar’s uncle and aunt are involved in the case, but the Baghbera police are yet to initiate any action against the culprits since the incident occurred two months back.

The accused are still at large despite a case (no-72/10) being registered with the Bagbera police station was on April 6, 2016.

The main accused Amresh Kumarv is behind bars, but Asha Devi and family are still quite worried.
Kolhan Jan Ekta Manch’s Pranav Mahato, Rakesh Sahu, Jitendra Singh Nehra, Santosh Mahato, Mukesh Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Goutam Sao and Ashish Namta were present when the victim�s mother met the SSP.
