Jamshedpur, Feb 8: An eight-member team of Jamshedpur based Jeevan organization that is dedicated to helping out persons suffering from depression and harboring suicidal tendencies, participated in a three-day Mitra Bharat National Conference organized by Lifeline Center, Kolkata.
The three-day National Conference, attended by 110 representatives from 14 centers of India, held detailed discussions on special topics related to suicide. On this occasion, an exhibition film by Jeevan on various services rendered by this Jamshedpur organization, came in for allround appreciation and received an award for this emphatic venture.
The main contemplative features discussed at this national meet centred on the importance of mental health in today’s era, criteria for providing emotional support to mental patients at different stages of suicidal inclinations, help to minors suffering from physical and mental torture as under purview of the POCSO Act, the responsibilities to be executed as per the Mental Health Act – 2017 under section 309, detailed information on the scope of special services rendered by Dost and Befrienders India, and other guardian organizations that provide services towards mental health.
Deputy Director of Jamshedpur’s Jeevan Sanstha, Durga Rao said that every session of this conference was knowledge and skill-enhancing. But above all, it should be realized that suicide prevention is a social responsibility. I am confident that the confidential emotional support provided by Jeevan members and workers will be on a much higher level and the percentage relief to patients of depression and suicidal tendencies will be much higher.”

He appealed to the people that the responsibility for prevention of suicide lay on every section of society. “This ‘epidemic’ can be prevented with everyone’s cooperation,” Rao stated.
