Jamshedpur: The election for the Mango Municipal Corporation witnessed a decisive turn as Sudha Gupta registered a win with a commanding lead over her nearest rival Sandhya Singh, establishing a clear advantage in the race for the mayoral post.
According to the latest counting updates, Sudha Gupta secured 33,047 votes, while Sandhya Singh trailed with 15,683 votes, resulting in a massive lead of over 17,000 votes. The margin was being seen as decisive, with only one round of counting remaining at the time of reporting.
The counting process, conducted in multiple rounds, reflected a consistent lead for Sudha Gupta from the early stages. By the completion of three rounds, her lead had widened significantly, leaving little room for a comeback by her closest competitor. Approximately 8,000 votes were yet to be counted in the final round.
Another key contender, Shaista Parveen alias Zeba Khan, also made a strong impact in the election, securing more than 9,500 votes and emerging as a significant player in the contest.
Among other candidates, Kumkum Srivastava polled 1,413 votes, Banita Sahay 1,289, Sushila Singh 2,879, Jeba Qadri 2,425, Indira Sundi 779, Raimuni Sundi 818, and Lucky Singh 569 votes. Several other candidates remained far behind in the race.
The counting process was carried out amid tight security arrangements, with supporters of various candidates closely monitoring each round. As trends became clearer, celebrations began in the camp of Sudha Gupta, whose lead continued to expand steadily.
Alongside the mayoral contest, results for multiple wards of the Mango Municipal Corporation were also declared, with candidates emerging victorious across different wards, reflecting a diverse political representation in the civic body.
Political observers noted that the large margin highlights a strong mandate in favour of Sudha Gupta, signalling voters’ preference for leadership focused on development and governance. With the final round of counting pending, her victory appears almost certain, marking a significant outcome in the municipal elections of Jamshedpur.
