Jamshedpur, June 18: A seven month child was operated on at the Dr Abhishek Child Care and Maternity Hospital. The infant’s parents reported that the child suffered indigestion and vomiting for which he had been admitted in hospitals on several occasions and the line of treatment followed was for pneumonia. Ultimately, the seven year old was brought to Dr Abhishek Child care and Maternity Hospital. Tests revealed that the child suffered from Diaphragmatic Hernia since birth. The disorder is rare and serious and surgery is the only panacea under the circumstances.
The child was operated upon by a team of pediatricians that included specialists Dr Soumya Ghosh, Dr Abhijit Kundu, Dr PL Rath, Dr Abhishek Kumar and Dr Pankaj Kumar. After the operation, the infant was put in the hospital’s Pediatric ICU for 72 hours and released after one week. The child’s condition is being regularly monitored.
Dr Soumya Ghosh said, “Diaphragmatic Hernia is a very rare disorder. In fact, it is so rare that barely three out of 10 thousand children suffer from this condition at birth.”
