Subhash Mittal, convoy drivers end marathon strike

Jamshedpur, July 29: The 388-day-long protest by Subhash Mittal and 200-odd days strike by convoy drivers ended on Friday, July 29, after a meeting of district administration officials on the direction of deputy commissioner Amit Kumar.

The senior administration officers invited convoy drivers, transporters, contractors and Tata Motors representatives and held discussions on the demands laid down by the convoy drivers.

ADM Bindeshwari Tatma, SDO Suraj Kumar, LRDC Manoj Ranjan, DTO Sanjay PM Kujur, DLC SS Pathak, deputy collector Sanjay Kumar after three-hour long meeting came to a conclusion that convoy drivers under the skilled category will get minimum wages of Rs 306 per day as set by the labor department, one paid week off, local allowance Rs 50 instead of Rs 30 and with railway fare as per the current rate. Apart from this as the government increases the minimum wage the drivers allowance would increase.

All were in favor of the outcome of the multilateral meeting. Later all the protestors and all others met DC Amit Kumar and thanked him for coming to a conclusion. Significantly, SDO Suraj Kumar played a vital role in building consensus.

On the other hand, Amit Kumar called Subhash Mittal, who was in strike for the last 388 days, in his chamber and listened to all his demands.

On the occasion DC ordered formation of three-member committee to probe the matter and assured Mittal that justified and quick action will be taken against all stated demands.

Soon, Subhash Mittal announced to withdraw the movement.
