Jamshedpur, May 29: The 25th State-Level Sub-Junior Basketball Championship 2025 was inaugurated with grandeur and enthusiasm at Govind Vidyalaya in Mango, Jamshedpur, on Thursday. Organized by the Jamshedpur Basketball Association under the guidance of the Jharkhand Basketball Association, the four-day event opened with colourful cultural performances and a warm welcome for participating teams.
Jamshedpur West MLA, Saryu Roy, graced the occasion as the chief guest. He also interacted with players and teams from across various districts.
In his address, MLA extended his best wishes to all participants, encouraging them to compete with sportsmanship and strive for excellence to earn a place in the state team. He assured the gathering of his commitment to supporting the growth of basketball in Jharkhand and praised the event organizers for their dedication.
Prominent personalities present on the occasion included Jharkhand Basketball Association President and Olympian Harbhajan Singh, Treasurer Pradeep Mukherjee, Govind Vidyalaya Managing Director B.D. Sharma, Mango social worker Muktar Alam, Vice President of Saraikela Kharsawan District Basketball Association Naveen Srivastava, Govind Vidyalaya PRO Rajesh Sharma, Principal Krishna Modak, and Sports Trainer W. Rahman.
This year’s championship has attracted significant participation, with 11 boys’ teams and 9 girls’ teams from different districts across Jharkhand. Over 250 players and 20 technical officials are involved in the tournament, which will follow a league-cum-knockout format. The final day will see the top teams awarded trophies, certificates, and cash prizes for their achievements.
