Jamshedpur, May 18: Students of the Golmuri-based Abdul Bari Memorial ( ABM) College, a constituent unit of Kolhan University, on Wednesday protested demanding improvement in facilities at the college library. They expressed concerns over the poor condition of the library and said that they are facing lot of problems because of this.
Students including girls and boys locked the library as well as the college for about half an hour to mark their protest against the college administration. The college has already received a grant of Rs 19 lakh under the development fund from the state human resource development ministry but has so far failed to buy books for the students.
Colleges under Kolhan University have received infrastructure development funds from the HRD department this year. The state government has ensured better infrastructure for the students welfare.
No new books have arrived in the past several years though the library used to boast of a regular attendance. It used to be one of the most popular libraries, especially among college students.
Everyone at some point feels the need of a good library. Jamshedpur proudly boasts of great schools and colleges, but along with them, it also has many libraries with their vast collection of books, journals and encyclopedias, said a student.
A source informed that the library has been lying defunct with no new books arriving from past several years. The library used to be an ‘adda’ for the intellectuals. But, it is now reeling.
