Students of Harijan High School inspired for science career

Jamshedpur : A group of 55 (Std. IX & X) students of Harijan High School, Bhalubasa, Jamshedpur accompanied by their Head Master, Md. Abdul Majid and four teachers, Sarita Sinha, Anupam Rani, Rana Vinod Kumar Singh and Md. Sadruddin visited CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur today and interacted with the working scientists and research fellows under the aegis of faculty training and motivation, adoption of schools by CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur sponsored by HRDG, CSIR, New Delhi.

While giving an overview on Science & Technological scenario in India vis-a-vis Global to the gatherings, Dr. N.G. Goswami, Chief Scientist and Co-ordinator of the programme highlighted on the basic concepts, needs and gap areas and how to look at Science and Technology for the welfare of mankind more precisely towards upliftment of our society.

Nisha Kumari Verma, a student of Std. IX said, “I really feel inspired after the laboratory visit. I got to know new facets of science today”.

Amit Mukhi, a student of Std. X said,”Today I learnt a new word -“patent”, its meaning, its importance and its impact. I barely knew this earlier”.

“Every moment spent today at NML taught me something new and innovative. I am more than happy to visit the laboratory. I am thankful to the organization for giving such an opportunity to we students”, said Poonam Kumari Choudhary, a student of Std. IX.

“Its really amazing to view things practically which so far we read in books. The visit has surely increased my interest towards the subject”, said Chandani Kumari, a student of Std. X.
“This is just a wonderful programme. I would love to visit the laboratory again”, said Lakshmi Kumari, a student of Std. X.

“I really feel very motivated and inclined towards scientific research”, remarked Jyoti Kumari, a student of Std. X after the laboratory visit.

“We didn’t knew about the CSIR-NML’s contributions towards the metals that we use every day”, remarked the thrilled students : Sarvashri Ashish Kumar Das, Gautam Kumar, Aklesh Sharma, and many more visiting students.
“What I loved the most is the way the things about science and future career prospect were explained. It was truly remarkable”, said Chotu Tape, a student of Std. X.

“Now I learnt about different ores, metals and how they are extracted and used”, said Jyoti Sarkar, a student of Std. IX.

The programme has been designed to give the students an exposure to modern laboratory conditions and to develop a positive feeling towards science for a career prospect.

The programme was scheduled for three and a half hours which comprised of an overview of Indian Science and Technology, Documentary film show on CSIR and NML, visit to NML Museum/ Archive/ selective units of the laboratory.
