Ranchi: Tensions escalated at Ranchi University as students resorted to locking the administrative building and staging a sit-in strike outside the university gates. Spearheaded by Rohit Shekhar, a leader from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), approximately 50 students are demanding the conduct of generic paper examinations.
The root of the issue lies in the delay of result announcements for the third semester examination held on July 8th and the first semester examination conducted on July 22nd. Adding to the frustration is the fact that the examination for the generic paper of the fourth semester, pertaining to students from the 2017-20 and 2018-21 sessions, is yet to take place.
In light of these delays, the protesting students are calling for immediate action. They argue that the examinations for the second and fourth semesters should have occurred 15 days after the completion of the first and third semesters. However, it has been four months since these initial exams, and the generic paper examination remains pending.
The situation is further exacerbated by the approaching expiration of the registration validity for students in the 2017-2020 session, scheduled for December. Some students have even participated in competitive examinations, but the absence of their examination results is hindering document verification.
At the time of the protest, Vice Chancellor Professor Ajit Kumar Singh, along with the Registrar and other officials, was attending a seminar at the Aryabhatta Auditorium of Ranchi University. The absence of university officials on the campus has further fueled the frustration of the protesting students.
