Jamshedpur, April 20: The halls of Tarapore School buzzed with intellectual intensity as the Inter-House Chess Tournament–2026 commenced on April 20. The two-day event features 56 budding grandmasters from both senior and junior divisions competing for the top spot.
Debrup Majumdar, with an impressive rating of 1443, enters the fray as the tournament’s top-seeded player. Following the rigorous Swiss system rules, the competition ensures a fair and challenging experience for all participants.

Principal Ishita Dey inaugurated the event with a symbolic opening move. Addressing the students, she highlighted how chess fosters intellectual growth and shared insights into the lives of world champions. Also in attendance were Games Teacher Kaushal Singh, Activity Head Manish Kumar, and Chief Arbiter Chandan Kumar Prasad.

The atmosphere was electric as students checked their pairings on smartboards before heading to their tables. After a grueling first day consisting of four rounds, the players will return tomorrow for the final three rounds to determine the house champion. Playing chess, as Principal Dey noted, remains a cornerstone of the students’ overall development.
