Jamshedpur, June 15: A powerful thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain struck Jharkhand, including Jamshedpur, on Thursday. Prior to the storm, the city experienced scorching heat throughout the morning. However, around three o’clock in the afternoon, the weather took a drastic turn as a fierce thunderstorm brought heavy rainfall. The sudden downpour provided relief from the scorching temperatures, and the wind speed reached 30-40 kilometers per hour. This weather phenomenon is being attributed to the partial effect of Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy. Jamshedpur recorded a maximum temperature of 43.0 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 30.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

Amidst the storm, a large tree toppled near Kala Mandir, close to the Bistupur traffic signal, causing damage to vehicles in the vicinity. A car and a scooty were particularly affected. The car’s occupant sustained injuries when shattered glass flew into their eye upon the tree’s impact. Promptly, local residents rushed to their aid and transported them to Tata Main Hospital (TMH) for medical treatment. The scooty, bearing the registration number JH 05CV 0137 and owned by a resident of KadmaShastri Nagar, also suffered considerable damage. Fortunately, the scooty’s owner narrowly escaped harm. Despite the incident, the Tata Steel Urban Infrastructure Services Limited (formerly known as Jusco) team did not arrive promptly to clear the fallen tree, resulting in prolonged traffic congestion on the main road.
