Storm hits normal life, uprooted trees lead to traffic jam

Jamshedpur: Normal life in the city was badly hit after heavy storm coupled with downpour brought life to a standstill on Sunday night. Although, again it brought relief to the citizens from heat but at the same time town activities was brought to a halt.

Heavy rains laced with thunderstorm hit the Steel City giving the denizens much needed respite from the soaring mercury.The shower was preceded with speedy winds and uprooted trees across the city. The straight mile road connecting Sakchi to Kadma was largely hit with uprooted trees blocking the movement of the traffic.

�Besides, the Sonari-Kadma link road too, was affected by the heavy winds with decayed trees falling prey to storm. The Joggers Park was inundated with uprooted branches of the trees. In the low laying areas of the Kadma and Sonari rain water gushed into the houses and people had a trouble time pouring out the water. Trees also uprooted near Super Centre in Kalimati Road.

Reports of tress/ branches fallen were being attended at Beldih Lake area, Office Road, road inside Jubilee Park, St. Mile Road, Sakchi Boulevard road, Sidhgora road, Kadma Sonari Link road, etc.Several areas under Electricity Board on Tuesday faced power pangs following heavy storm in the evening.

The power crisis worsened in almost all areas under JSEB following the Nor�wester which resulted in disruption of services.�The power lines snapped at the JUVNL sub-stations at several places including Ulliyan in Kadma and Karandih affecting power supply.

To make matters worse, branches of trees fell on the overhead electricity wires at several places during the Nor’wester, resulting in further disruption.�Mango was the worst affected, where most of the localities faced power failure throughout the day. The residents of several localities including Madho Bag Colony, Dimna Road, Azadnagar and Sankosai complained that they were bereft of power for the last 24-hours.�

Places like Sonari , Sundernagar, Karandih and Parsudih which has JSEB supply was also confronting with power woes for the third consecutive day today.�In most part of the area electricity supply is not there and even in some of the locality where there is power supply is irregular. The years old electricity wires and poles are in abject condition with incident of power cuts being taking place frequently in summer,� informed, Mahesh Patel, resident of Transportnagar in Mango.

According to general manager, JUVNL Jamshedpur supply area, A. P Singh, uprooting of poles and damage to sub-stations and feeders led to power supply being paralysed completely in their areas. �We have started restoring power in Mango and few patches of Uliyan (Kadma) areas.

However, it will take more time for power supply to be restored in areas distribution from Birsanagar, Chottagovindpur and Jugsalai sub-stations. Our teams are working to resume power supply,� said Singh.

The areas in city and its outskirts which witnessed a blackout after the rains include, Mango, Jugsalai, Bagbera, Kitadih, Parsudih, Karandih, Sundernagar, Birsanagar, Bagunhatu, Shastrinagar, Jugsalai, parts of Sonari and Kadma, Bagbera, Jugsalai, Manifit,� Chotta Govindpur and Ghorabandha affecting nearly seven lakh residents.
