Jamshedpur, Feb 23: A delegation of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leaders from Mango met Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of East Singhbhum M Tamil Vanan on Wednesday and demanded improvement in the work culture of city police.
Leading the delegation, the Mango committee president Fateh Chandra Tudu said, “The city has witnessed a spurt in crimes like theft, loot and firing in the last several months. Police have failed to control the situation and tighten noose around the criminal gangs responsible for the decline in law and order. They are only busy harassing citizens in the name of checking helmet, seat belt and documents of vehicles.”
The JMM leaders alleged that there were instances of traffic police officials beating up and manhandling citizens during helmet checking at few places. When someone opposes this, they are threatened of dire consequences by the errant cops, they said.
