Jamshedpur Sept. 4: In the continuing endeavour to protect the brand, assure the customers of the quality of its products and to minimise losses due to theft of product during transit, the Tata Steel Brand Protection department has been conducting raids all over the country resulting in large scale recovery of stolen and counterfeit material and dissolution of organised gangs thriving on such illegal activities.

In the most recent raid conducted at Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. Police and Tata Steel security personnel collaborated on a joint operation involving one Maa Bhadrakali Hotel, located on the Hazaribagh – Barhi road, whose owner was the kingpin of the racket.

Apparently, the laden trucks would be taken into the jungle behind the hotel and bars would be removed. The bars so removed would be sold at rates lower that the actual rates of Tiscon TMT to local traders without issuing invoices and thus evading applicable taxes. Local sources revealed that on an average more than 20 trucks would halt at the above mentioned location and TMT bars meant to be delivered to customers/stockyards at various locations would be removed.

More than a ton of Tiscon TMT Bars were recovered worth nearly Rs. 80,000/-. Five persons were arrested in the raid and more arrests are likely as the gangs likely to be involved in the theft shall be identified during the course of further investigation.

Tata Steel is grateful to the Jharkhand Police, whose unstinting support led to the uncovering of such a conspiracy and has sent out a strong message to the perpetrators of such illegal activities. The operations shall continue across the country.
