Stephen Eze joins Jamshedpur FC Pre-Season camp, boosts squad morale

Jamshedpur, September 9: Jamshedpur FC received a timely boost on Monday as towering Nigerian centre-back Stephen Eze reported for duty at the club’s pre-season camp after flying in from Nigeria earlier in the day. The 31-year-old joins Japanese midfielder Rei Tachikawa, meaning the Men of Steel now have two overseas professionals integrating with the mainly domestic squad.

Stephen Eze had an outstanding season last year as he feature in 23 of Jamshedpur’s 27 league matches and contributing three goals and an assist. With his strong defensive abilities, Jamshedpur reached the semifinals of the Indian Super League and were runners up in the Super Cup.

The Makurdi-born defender first signed for Jamshedpur in 2020 after spells with Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Bulgaria and FC Tobol in Kazakhstan, and has represented Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the African Nations Championship and in the preliminary squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The experienced centre-back brings solidity and leadership to the squad and is already integrating with the group during the pre-season sessions.

“I am happy to be back at Jamshedpur. Last year we missed both the league and Cup narrowly. We need to make amends to that perform better this season and bring more silverware to the city,” he said.

His arrival will bring more confidence to the training atmosphere, and his presence is expected to provide valuable exposure for the younger players while strengthening the team’s core ahead of the upcoming season.
