Steel Oars Set Sail: TSAF Launches Women’s Team Kit for National League

Jamshedpur, May 4: The Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) marked a significant milestone by officially launching the team kit of its women’s rowing squad, Steel Oars, which will compete in the ASMITA National Women’s Rowing League. The event highlighted TSAF’s continued commitment to nurturing grassroots sports talent, particularly among women.

The ceremony was graced by D. B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President Corporate Services, Tata Steel, who attended as the Chief Guest, while Kapil Modi, Managing Director of JCAPCPL, was present as the Guest of Honour. Mukul Vinayak Choudhari, Chief Sports, Tata Steel, along with senior officials from Tata Steel Sports & Adventure Department and JCAPCPL, also attended the event.

JCAPCPL, the official partner of the TSAF Rowing Academy, has played a crucial role in strengthening rowing infrastructure and providing consistent support to young athletes in the region. Their collaboration has helped the academy achieve steady progress, culminating in its recent success at the National Indoor Rowing Championship 2026, where TSAF secured four medals—its first at the national level.

The participation of Steel Oars in the national league reflects this upward trajectory. The team showcases a strong grassroots presence, with 18 athletes from the TSAF Rowing Academy taking part in the league, including 11 representing Steel Oars directly. Notably, all participants are women, underlining TSAF’s focus on promoting women in sports.

The squad features promising young rowers across categories, including Under-15 participants competing in single scull, double scull, coxless pair, and fours events. Additionally, several TSAF-trained athletes from the Dimna region are representing teams like Assam and Gorakhpur, demonstrating the depth of talent developed at the academy.

Dignitaries at the event lauded the academy’s growth and encouraged the athletes to excel on the national stage.
