Hemant concerned over looming drought in scanty monsoon

Ranchi, July 21: Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren said that government is working on campaign mode to link all beneficiaries with pension under the Sarvajanan Pension Yojana.

The objective is that not a single elderly, disabled, abandoned and single women and widow are left out from the pension benefits.

“Since formation of the state only 6 lakh 50 thousand people were getting the benefit of pension in the last 20 years, whereas our government has done the work of connecting 17 to 18 lakh pensioners in just two and a half years. We are working on campaign mode to link beneficiaries,” said Soren at a program in Dumka to lay foundation stones and inaugurate slew of schemes.

The Chief Minister said that the government is running welfare schemes keeping in mind the interest of every section and section so that government’s plan should reach the last person of the state.

Chief minister also cautioned about the looming drought like situation due to poor monsoon in the state.

“Right now, drought-like situation is brewing in the coming time, farmers have not even been able to plant so far.  In those parts where agriculture is not mainstay there is flood while in those place like Jharkhand where 80 percent of the people are dependent on agriculture, there is scanty rainfall. The government is making plans to alleviate suffering of farmers,” said Soren.

The Chief Minister said that earlier people used to get oil, salt, sugar, pulses along with rice through ration cards, which were stopped by the previous governments.

“Our government is again working to give back the lost respect of the people. Now we are giving rice, wheat and salt to the ration card holders and soon pulses will also be provided to them. Under the Sona Sobran Dhoti Sari scheme, the poor are being given dhoti sarees twice a year for Rs 10,” said Soren.

Chief minister also said that like para teachers whose problem was solved by the government they would also solve the problem of all the contractual workers in government departments.
