Ranchi, Aug. 8: The Janaki Foundation and its partner Inter Agency Group in association with GOOGLE – Leading internet search engine of the world organized a State Training Workshop on Internet Safety on August 09, 2016 at Hotel Amaltash, Ranchi, Jharkhand. As we are aware, Internet today plays a huge role in our daily lives.
Google, Email, Facebook – On our laptop, at our desk, on our smart phone. Although the Internet is a great source for research projects and other information, there are also dangers involved with surfing the Web. According to the Research data, 95 percent of teens ages 12 to 17 uses Internet and 80 percent of those online teens use social media sites.
There are still online impersonators and “fakers,” despite heightened security measures. That one 15 year old Facebook user may actually be a grown 50-year-old adult pretending to be a teen for inappropriate reasons. The world gets smaller as Facebook and Google continue to grow.
Amiya Datte from Google, Hemant Upadhyaya from Consumer Voice, New Delhi shared practical experiences from across the globe on Internet Safety, Android and Chrome Applications, Phishing and related consumer protection issues.
Facilitators from Google provided do’s and don’t pertaining to safe keeping of data, applications usage so as to prevent data damage, financial loss and be safe.
Key participants of this consultation included representatives from Government, UNICEF, Save the Children, Needs. World Vision, Plan India, Caritas India, Jharkhand Aids Control Society, CINI, Citizen Foundation, Management Students, Academia, Media and Consumer Organizations.
Mahavir Hansda from Save the Children highlighted that spam mails should be avoided so as to be virtually safe. Rekha Khalko World Vision highlighted that this subject is very important – since most of us are spending much of our time on net, this is a very important issue that we need to create awareness to be safe.
Murari Choudhary from Needs, Deoghar queried as to how we should recover our password once it is hacked? Cloud Locker System and what are the best steps / disciplines to be maintained to prevent loss. Participants were convinced that registered Google play stores should be used in Android phone to prevent malwares.
Convenor of IAG Jharkhand, Subir Kumar and the CEO – Janaki Foundation –. A.K.Tiwari facilitated the sessions, talked about the technicalities of the process on how to be safe and secure on internet especially when much of the business like payment gateway, official work is being deliberated online.
