State govt to roll out 24X7 free ambulance service

Jamshedpur, March 10: The Government of Jharkhand is set to launch the Jharkhand Emergency Medical Ambulance Service (JEMAS), a comprehensive pre-hospital emergency medical service with the introduction of a fleet of ambulances to cover the entire state in a phased manner.

This announcement is expected to generate more employment opportunities in the healthcare sector. Hundreds of EMT’s and fresh graduates are required for the project so that they can be given additional training for the role of Ambulance Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

The emergency ambulance service will be launched in Ranchi and is likely to roll out by June 2016. With an aim of providing emergency ambulance service free of cost to the people of Jharkhand, JEMAS will ensure delivery of quality emergency care across the chain of services with proper emergency management system.

This fleet will comprise of both Advance Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Supporter (BLS) ambulances with sophisticated features like defibrillators, cardiac monitors and suction machines, among others. The ambulances will also have emergency medicines, life-saving equipment as mentioned above along with oxygen cylinders.

This ambulance service is a scheme under the Jharkhand government and National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) which is predominantly an emergency response system designed to attend patients of critical care, trauma and accident victims.

The citizens can avail for this service 24X7 free of cost. The service is expected to roll out 329 ambulances across the entire state starting from Ranchi, Hazaribagh and Jamshedpur.

This is a people-oriented service focused on providing free pre-hospital care to all people in Jharkhand. The ambulances will be stationed mostly in CHC’s and district hospitals.
