Srinath College holds workshop on Dewey’s theory, practice of education

Jamshedpur, August 11: Srinath University Chancellor Sukhdev Mahto, VC Dr Govind Mahto, Pro Chancellor Gurudev Mahto and Principal of Srinath College of Education Dr Balabhadra Jena jointly inaugurated a one day workshop on, ‘Contributions of John Dewey towards Theory and Practice of Education.’ The workshop was organized by the Srinath College of Education, Adityapur. Assistant professors and students presented their papers on the subject during the workshop.

During his address at the workshop, Dr Govind Mahato observed, “A subject is deeply studied through seminars and many new concepts and unknown facets till now, emerge to enhance our learning and knowledge. Dewey’s influence on education and educational pursuits is marked by an emphasis on the belief that people learn and grow as a result of their experiences and interactions with the world. He aimed to shape educational environments so that they would promote active inquiry, but did not do away with traditional instruction altogether. This Seminar will definitely be more beneficial to all the faculties and students.”

Dr Balabhadra Jena said that such seminars led to professional growth of teachers. “Students also learn how to set about preparing and presenting papers and this learning will stand them in good stead for the future. We explore the practical aspects of John Dewey’s theory on education in the light of NEP 2020. That is why his theory is relevant in the present context.’

Assistant professors and students of B. Ed and D El Ed Department were present in the seminar. The seminar was hosted by Assistant Professors , Jayashree Singh and Shweta Kumari. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ganesh Mahato, Assistant Professor of the Department of Education.
