Jamshedpur, Oct 19: With thieves and snatchers having a free run in the city, the Jamshedpur police have asked the mobile cops to get more active along the roads that lead to a joggers’ park in any locality of the city.
Apart from these major incidents of loot on the streets, the incidents like snatching of cellphone and cash at various parts of the city has become regular.
“There has been a spurt in petty crimes in the city. We have been successful in arresting quite a few thieves involved in the reported cases but I think there is a need to ensure proper night watch. We are planning to increase the movement of mobile police and vigil,” noted a police official.
He went on to add that maximum cases of thefts have been reported from Bistupur, Sakchi and Golmuri areas this year. The police would increase vigil in these areas.
The city police are taking every step to ensure safe Durga Puja this year. Amidst fear of COVID-19, the police have not only increased vigil against those violating social distancing norms but are determined tighten noose on drunken revelers and eve teasers during festive fervor.
To ensure peaceful Durga Puja celebrations, district administration is taking unprecedented measures to tackle eve teasing. According to information besides posting of policemen in uniform, security men will also be posted in plain clothes in crowded areas to check teasing and other crimes. Women constables in plain clothes would also be deployed to check teasing.
Police officials informed that they have identified places where women could be more vulnerable to such behaviour and extra force has been deployed at such points. Surprise checks would be carried out at places where hooligans are likely to gather and harass passers-by.
