JNAC starts tender process for parking contract in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Oct 19: Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC), on Monday started the tender process for parking contracts afresh.

An official of JNAC said that a tender process began on Monday that led over a dozen interested parties to bag the parking contracts.  He informed that the fresh parking contract will remain valid upto March 31, 2021 only.

Parking at public places is maintained by the JNAC through its contractors at Bistupur and Sakchi areas only.  At Bistupur the parking system was in place on the Bistupur Main Road, near the Jubilee park, near the PM Hi-tech City Centre Mall on the OC Road, General Post Office, State Bank of India and Kamani Centre.  At Sakchi, the parking system was effective on the Kalimati Road, Sakchi Market and HDFC bank’s Sakchi branch.

“We want to ensure that the vehicles parked in public places remain safe so we identified some new areas in our fold,” said the official.

Another official said that despite a series of campaigns it seems the citizens of the city are simply not bothered with the no parking signs put up all along the main roads. Vehicles, be it a four-wheeler or a two-wheeler, queued up in a clutter is a common sight in the city. However with the towing of vehicles they are hopeful to teach the people civic sense.  Unauthorised parking has become a major concern for traffic police and repeated special drives have been launched to provide free movement.

As part of tough measures to regulate traffic, Jamshedpur Police have also received wheel lockers to clamp wheels of vehicles at no parking zones.   As per the plans, only after paying the fine with the traffic police, the vehicles be it two, three or four wheelers can be moved away from the spot. Any attempts to move the vehicle by the owner/driver with the lock may damage the tyres.
