Jamshedpur, June 6: Tragedy struck when a 16-year-old school boy was killed and three other students of the same age were injured as a speeding car hit them near NR High School on the Kandra-Seraikela Road under Seraikela police station area in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district today.
The student who was killed on the spot was identified as Dhiraj Gope, son of Subhan Gope, a resident of Pijuri village in Seraikela.
The three injured Mangal Sardar, Ajay Gope and Duryodhan Tanti were soon admitted to TMH.
The mishap took place, when Dhiraj who passed his matriculation from the NR High School this year had come to collect the mark-sheet.
Dhiraj was standing along with three other students on the left side of the road as the SUV (JH05U/0030)came at a high from the Kandra side and hit the students.
According to sources, it was Dhiraj who was standing closer to the road with his cycle and was directly hit by the speeding four-wheelers, where as three other students escaped with minor injury. One of the injured, identified as Mangal Sardar has developed fracture in one of his legs.
As Mangal sustained multiple injuries in the leg, he was referred to MGM Medical College and Hospital. Of the two remaining students, one was released after first-aid where as the other one still undergoing treatment at the Seraikela sub-divisional hospital.
Driver of the SUV fled the scene of mishap leaving the vehicle abandoned at the spot. The police have seized the vehicle immediately.
About half-an-hour of the mishap the local residents set up a blockade on the Kandra-Seraikela Road which is a state highway in protest against rash driving.
Officer-in-charge, Seraikela thana, Binod Kumar said that they have seized the vehicle and are now trying to find out the SUV owner.
